Maya heard a soft whimpering sound coming from behind the bushes in her backyard. She walked closer and discovered a small, muddy puppy shivering in the cold. The puppy had no collar and looked very scared.
"It's okay, little one," Maya whispered gently. She wrapped the puppy in her jacket and carried it inside. Her mom helped her dry off the puppy and give it some water and food. The hungry puppy ate quickly and wagged its tiny tail.
Maya's family posted pictures of the puppy online and put up flyers around the neighborhood. They wanted to help the puppy find its way home. For three days, the puppy stayed with Maya's family. Maya played with the puppy and took care of it.
On the fourth day, a woman called. "That's my puppy, Biscuit!" she cried happily. "He escaped from our yard during the storm." When the woman arrived, Biscuit jumped with joy. Maya felt sad to say goodbye, but happy that Biscuit was going home. The woman promised Maya could visit Biscuit anytime.
