After three days of rain, the sun finally came out. Sophie and her grandmother sat on the porch drinking hot chocolate. Suddenly, her grandmother pointed to the sky. "Look, Sophie! A rainbow!" The colorful arc stretched across the gray clouds.
Sophie had never seen a rainbow so bright. She counted the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. "Why does it make an arch shape?" she asked. Her grandmother explained that rain drops act like tiny prisms, bending sunlight into different colors.
"Can we touch a rainbow?" Sophie wondered. Her grandmother smiled. "Rainbows are special. They're made of light and water, so you can see them but never touch them. They appear when the sun and rain meet at just the right moment."
Sophie watched as the rainbow slowly faded away. Even though it was gone, she felt happy inside. She had learned that some of the most beautiful things in nature are also the most mysterious. That night, she drew a picture of the rainbow to remember the magical moment.
