Weekly Update, Families!
Hello Barracuda Families! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Fat Burger Fundraiser! We appreciate your support!
This week, October 26–30, is Red Ribbon Week! We will focus on making healthy, positive choices throughout the week. Students are encouraged to participate in our fun dress-down days:
Red Ribbon Week Dress-Down Days
- Monday, October 26: Proud to be drug free! Wear red.
- Tuesday, October 27: “My future is bright without drugs.” Wear sunglasses and/or neon.
- Wednesday, October 28: Drugs are not our game! Wear your favorite sports jersey.
- Thursday, October 29: Don’t be caught sleeping. Say no! Wear your favorite pajamas.
- Friday, October 30: Have the power to say NO! Dress like your favorite superhero.
NEHS Food Drive: Our National Elementary Honor Society is collecting food donations for Seeds of Hope through November 16th! Most needed items are cranberry sauce, instant mashed potatoes, brownie/cookie mix boxes, and chicken broth cartons. Donations can be dropped off with any K–5 homeroom teacher or at the front office and will be delivered to Mrs. Southard and NEHS.
Great American Teach-In: Do you have an interesting career you’d like to share with our students? Join us on Thursday, November 12th (8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.). Register here by November 1st.

Math & Science
Math
- In Topic 7, Lessons 5–8, we will practice adding multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm, including regrouping when needed. We will also apply our addition strategies to solve real-world comparison word problems.
Science
- In Topic 2, Lesson 2: Changes in Energy, we will explore how energy causes motion and change. Students will learn about kinetic energy, potential energy, and work and investigate how energy makes everyday objects move.
Reading, Writing & Social Studies
Reading
- In Module 4, Week 1, we will read The Saga of Pecos Bill and focus on identifying literary elements, elements of drama, and figurative language. Our vocabulary strategy will focus on shades of meaning, exploring how words with similar meanings can express different levels of intensity.
Writing
- In Module 4, Week 1, we will learn how to identify and correct sentence fragments and run-on sentences. Students will practice writing complete sentences and combining or separating ideas correctly. We will also practice writing the cursive letters r and s.
Grammar
- In Module 4, Week 1, we will learn about subject and object pronouns and practice choosing pronouns that agree with the nouns they replace.
Social Studies
- We will review the concepts covered in Chapter 2 and prepare for our Chapter 2 Assessment. Students will revisit how geography, natural resources, and human activities affect the environment and the way people live.
